Canto Coro introduced into the Australian choral tradition some of the great choral works of Latin America and Greece. We also commissioned new work from local artists in themes appropriate to the choir’s principles. In between these major performances we sang at festivals and community events.

Double Devotions: Misa Criolla and other Canto Coro favourites at the National Multicultural Festival, Canberra. Reprised as The Passion and the Glory in Melbourne with Inka Marka.

Launched the Melbourne International Festival and At Table, Speigeltent program with Inka Marka. Launch of Inka Marka’s Misa Criolla CD featuring Canto Coro.

Decimo. A celebration of a decade of Canto Coro with selections from all 10 years with Inka Marka.

1975: A Populist Opera by Irine Vela. 1975 is a music theatre exploration, in the form of a requiem mass, of the consequences of the Whitlam dismissal in Australia and the invasion of East Timor.

2002

Voices of the Masses including Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez. This 1963 work is a folk mass in Spanish based on the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America, particularly those of Argentina, the birthplace of the composer. The program also featured songs from Inka Marka, East Timor, Axion Esti by Theodorakis and other Canto Coro favourites.

Certain Sun Remembered Moon including work in progress form 1975 by Irine Vela and John Romeril.

Flowers of the Rock Fatal Shore by Irine Vela, Epiphania by George Seferis/Mikis Theodorakis with excerpts from Canto General by Pablo Neruda/Mikis Theodorakis.
